Ahh yes, Mega Man Legends. This was a bit of a confusing title at first. When you think of Mega Man, you think of a 2D side-scrolling action platformer wherein you defeat unfortunately named Robot Masters (a la Goemon047). Yup, those were the days.

But I jest; that is still pretty much what Mega Man is. Legends, on the other hand, is a bit of a different cookie. It was - if I'm not mistaken - the first game in the Mega Man series to go 3D. Was it awe inspiring? Was it a transition into a new generation and new era of Mega Man? Well, not exactly.

It was actually a new type of game altogether, with RPG elements and a different style of gameplay. For one thing it wasn't 2D (obviously), but for another thing, bringing the Mega Man series to 3D meant changes to the game dynamics as well (also pretty obvious).

Was it better, or worse? Well, I don't think that's entirely a fair question. More importantly, it was different.

Still, as I look back, I have fairly fond memories of this game. Once I got over the fact that it wasn't the Mega Man I used to know, I could enjoy it for what it was. It was a well-constructed game; it had loads of hidden items and hidden paths, upgrades, and epic boss battles. The final boss was quite diabolical, even compared to other famous game villains, if I remember right.
