1. It’s Patronizing
Not a unique problem to this movie, but no less annoying.
I can’t speak for the general movie-going public, but I don’t need everything spelled out for me. Yes, there is a fine line between obscurity and cleverness, but this movie doesn’t know what either of those words mean.
Count on Hollywood to run with a story about a girl that starts stripping out of desperation, and pepper in sex, drugs, couple drama and high-rolling players just for good measure.
I’m not saying that stuff didn’t happen in the “true story” – I don’t really have any way of knowing – but I do think the premise gave them a reason to take it to the nth degree.
Not a good story without the sensationalism? Exactly, so why bother telling it?
