17-year-old Christopher Roupe was accidentally killed by a police officer in Euharlee, Georgia on Friday, February 14, 2014.
Roupe heard a knock at the door that fateful Friday night, and when he went to answer the door, he was shot on-site by a female police officer who mistakenly thought that he was holding a gun.
The officer was making a probation-related visit to the home, and when Roupe answered with a game controller in his hand, the policewoman mistook it for a weapon. Roupe was likely holding a Wii controller; possibly a gun-shaped one.
The officer in question has been placed on administrative leave. Meanwhile, the department will be investigating this matter further. Roupe’s family will likely file a suit against the department.
This incident is tragic, and it is a difficult one to respond to. At AS Movies & Games, we’d like to offer the Roupe family our sincerest prayers. We also hope that there will be no future occurrences of this kind.
We also pray for the officer in question. This would be both a shocking and difficult situation to recover from.
